I have posted before about a baby at my work that was SO helped by some oils!
Well we have a new sweet little baby who has had a very rough transition into being cared for by others. It has been so rough that this baby has only been able to stay a couple of hours because we can't even feed or calm it down. Ever.
I was gone on Monday. My sweet coworker sent me a message before I came back in asking me to bring my oils. I guess this baby had stayed all day Monday and it was rough to say the least.
I prepared for the worst and brought the oils with me. My work is AWESOME enough to recognize the benefit of oils, so they bought a diffuser for my room!! I started diffusing the Peace and Calming blend along with some Lavender. Drop off went well and we had no crying for over an hour!! Then I placed a drop of both of those oils on the swing before it was nap time. This baby stayed still with eyes open just enjoying the swing for 45 minutes, then fell asleep!!! This was unbelievable.
The rest of the day went fine. And I should also mention that the feeding went fine too. Again it was one of those moments where if I did not believe the full power of oils ... I sure just witnessed a reminder.
Babies and oils ... a match made in heaven. *Deep sigh*
Until next time ...

Home made deodorant ... Take 2!!!
I recently did a post on the dangers of commercial deodorant here. I started trying to make my own by doing a spray with raw apple cider vinegar and lemon oil. It works great because it kills all the bacteria and gets rid of any odor.
It did work but I got to where I did not like the smell of the vinegar. So, I made a deodorant paste instead. Here are the ingredients that I used:
Coconut Oil
Baking Soda
10 drops essential oils (optional)
Remember when using coconut oil on your skin to use an unrefined organic high quality oil. This is the one that I used.
I then got a glass jar and put in enough baking soda to fill it about half way up. Then I added in coconut oil and kept stirring until it made a paste. You could then add 10 or so drops of essential oils to scent it and increase antibacterial properties. Lemon or Lavender or Purification would be great choices.
The reasons I like this home made deodorant better:
1. It does not smell like vinegar.
2. The baking soda in it has stopped any sweating from happening in the first place!
3. It is quick and easy.
I just take a little bit on my finger tip and rub it right in. Have fun!

Home Made Facial Cleanser
I recently have been learning about oil cleansing. This is where you do not use soap on your face. You just rub with oil and water to clean. My first thought was, "What about my make up?" Well then I remembered how make up removers are oily. Haha!
When you cleanse with oils you want to use high quality products. This means that for coconut oil you would want to purchase one that is NOT refined and extra virgin and organic. This helps it not clog pores and maintain a great anti microbial property.
I also got avocado oil and almond oil. I used small glass jars (not plastic) to store it in. I put about 15 drops of essential oils in each jar. I used oils to help my skin problems. I chose to mix in Purification, Melaleuca Alterniforlia and Lavender for my break outs.
I mixed up about a cup and a half of coconut oil and added about a tablespoon each of almond oil and avocado oil. I whipped it with a whisk. It made an amazing creamy texture. I put mine into 3 jars. But FIRST I added my drops of oils. I poured the coconut mixture offer the essential oils in each jar and very gently swirled them in.
Viola!! I had another batch I experimented with that I got too runny from too much avocado oil. I left it that consistency and added Frankincense oil for a spot and wrinkle correcting moisturizer. I only dab on a bit before bed and let it soak in overnight. It is amazing!
My skin has never felt better. I was having break outs and having dry flakiness and all sorts of issues. My skin is now glowing and moisturized but not oily.
I will add in that I am using my Clarsonic along with the oil. It is dreamy!!

Allergy Relief
I decided to try a tip from a Testimonial Tuesday. I went to my local store and picked up a package of capsules so I can make my own.
I have been experiencing a very itchy and runny nose in the mornings. So, I decided to try 2 drops of Lavender in a capsule.
All I did was open up the capsule, drop in two drops of oil, close it back up and take it. I am the world's biggest skeptic, so I thought I would just take it and I had no expectation.
NO LIE within about 10 minutes my nose QUIT running and itching. It was so abrupt that I stopped and thought about it and realized it was the Lavender in capsule that had to have done it! That was yesterday. I had the same experience today! Within 10 minutes it quit.
I feel so much more confident in treating my allergies with some Lavender than with taking a chemical filled pill. That's my own personal opinion. I never would take a daily medication for allergies because of that. I just don't like putting synthetic medicines in my body daily. So, this may change my life a little ... or a lot.
Yahoo!!!

Sizzling Sunburn
I went with my 4 year old on her field trip to the park on Monday. I am so blessed to work at a job where I can be with my kids. My baby came along too.
You know how it is when you are a tired mom. You are so concerned about your kids and don't think twice about yourself. I had made sure both kids were slathered in sun protection, and totally forgot about myself. I stood in the shade a lot that day so I didn't think much of it.
Boy was I wrong!!!
I started to treat it with olive oil and lavender and frankincense. I did that once before bed. The next morning I got up and treated with the same mix every 2 hours. That was my plan at least. But when you are busy being a mom sometimes you just don't take care of yourself the way you should! So I really ended up doing this treatment about 4 times that first day.
Here is what it looked like only 48 hours later!
It's pretty amazing. The shoulder redness is completely gone. My neck still only has a little left. The best part is that My skin did not burn when I was sleeping or when I would move my arms. That was great. I feel like it helped speed up my healing a LOT.
I won't forget to use sunscreen again this summer! I have a recipe to make some using oils and will post that soon.

Testimonial Tuesday!
Today's testimonial comes from Phil. He had suffered from severe allergies. His wife Nikki and he decided to try essential oils to treat the problem. Here is their story.
It is so great to see and hear about how oils are working in the lives of those around me!

"My husband has suffered from seasonal Spring allergies ever since we moved here in 2006. Each Spring he would go to CVS and stock up on all the usual antihistamines, and Benedryl. The would sometimes work, but would also cause him drowsiness and dizziness.
This year, I had heard about using Lavender, Young Living oils internally and in our nasal rinses. At the first sign of allergies we put 5 drops of oil in a gel capsule he bought at Atkins. He took it in the evening as well as put Lavender on his feet and diffused in the bedroom. The next morning, he said it worked fairly well, but that he wasn't quite sold and that he might take his allergy meds just to get him though the work day. I asked him to give it 24 more hours. So he took another Lavender pill and went to work. That day he said he could feel the sinus pressure going away and was feeling much better. That night he took another capsule before bed and did a sinus rinse with a drop of lavender oils as well. I also put Peppermint oil on the back of his neck and along his spine and on his feet. The next morning, he said he slept though the whole night and was able to breathe through his nose with NO CONGESTION! The rest of the week, he just took one capsule with only 3 drops every other day. That was two weeks ago and he has only had to take one capsule this week. We still diffuse lavender in our bedroom every night and vacuum our carpets almost every day just to get allergies out. We also take off our shoes when we get in the house.
We are sold on Young Living oils for our family!"

Testimonial Tuesday!
I am going to try and do something I am calling Testimonial Tuesday. I love sharing what oils are doing with my health, but I think you all would enjoy hearing what they are doing for others as well. So here we go!
Today's testimony is from a friend of mine named Whitney. I have let her borrow some oils to see if they are something she would be interested in for herself and her family. Whitney is a busy mom and suffered from daily headaches. Poor thing! She was having to take Advil or Tylenol about everyday to keep it under control. Here is what she said after trying oils:
"I get a tension headache almost every day and have to take something for it. I used the peppermint and lavender around my hairline and down my neck and my headache was gone in about 10 minutes! I have also used it when I feel one starting and it has kept it from getting bad! It's amazing!"
I am sure Whitney's liver is pretty happy with her too since she gets to take less medication now!
Do you ever lend out your oils? I do. I know it will be the way for others to get to experience how awesome it can be to have them work to better there health.
Until next time ...

The Art Of Eyebrows
I have been doing hair for 10 years. It is a fun little interest of mine. Along with that came education on all things beauty, including eyebrows. Oh how I love a set of well groomed eyebrows. But to groom them I personally use wax.
As we all know it can cause some redness. And this really stinks when you have other things to do that day. One tip to avoid redness is to not over heat your wax so you are not burning your skin as well, just FYI. Well this last time I waxed I also had an important meeting that same day. I remembered that Lavender essential oil is helpful with burns and scrapes. And then the light bulb went off! So right after my wax a placed a bit of Lavender oil on the area and poof ... no redness! When I did this I kept in mind how I did not want to get any oil too close to my eyes since it could burn. I had no trouble. You could not even tell I had anything done. So there is my little time saver I learned when I experimented with Lavender. It's great stuff!
Happy Waxing! (if there is such a thing)
Until next time ...
